How to make bulk floors yourself: step-by-step instructions from mortar to pouring
There are several varieties of bulk floors. They are:
- Polyurethane, characterized by a long service life, elasticity; they are durable (it is difficult to damage them), resistant to chemical influences, temperature extremes; they are easy to wash;
- Epoxy, in the advantages of which shock resistance; they can withstand high humidity in the room; easy to clean;
- Epoxy-urethane, with the properties of the above types;
- Methyl methacrylate: it has worse performance than those described above; advantage - the ability to use a couple of hours after pouring; the latter, due to an unpleasant odor, is carried out with the windows open.
Tools that are necessary for laying the bulk floor: container for mixing the mixture; thread, tape used in the marking process; a nozzle for a drill that helps stir the solution; spatulas (different in size); needle roller, which evenly distribute the mixture on the surface; rule level.
Foundation preparation. It can be concrete, wood, tiled and, most importantly, even (permissible deviation in height - up to 4 mm).
The concrete base is checked for surface moisture, compressive strength, tear strength. They should be, respectively, less than 4%, more than 20 and 1.5 MPa. The age of the layer should not be less than 28 days.
The old coating is removed from the old concrete base, traces of paint, glue, oil are removed. They clean it from dust, close existing cracks, chips with a mortar mixed with resin. Construction glue is suitable for sealing small cracks. At the end, the surface is ground, removing small irregularities. Check horizontality.
After the base is primed. This allows you to increase its adhesion with a bulk coating. Porous and rough surfaces are primed several times. Use high viscosity material. Work is carried out with a roller, a wide brush at a constant temperature, which will avoid the appearance of bubbles.
Solution preparation Do everything in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. The dry mixture is poured into a container with water, stirred for at least 10 minutes with a construction mixer, a drill with a nozzle. The consistency is checked: the solution with which the cylinder is filled with a height and diameter of 5 cm, after removing the latter, spreads on the floor with a stain, the diameter of which should not be more than 18 cm.
When filling the floor in the room should be a temperature of 15 ... 25 ° C, humidity up to 80%.
The solution is poured onto the base, leveled with a spatula, controlling the thickness of the layer with a squeegee. Do it in portions, each subsequent is poured near the previous one. Pass from above the surface with a needle roller - this removes air bubbles from the thickness.
Cover the floor with plastic wrap. After solidification, the coating is treated with polyurethane varnish. It gives the floor an attractive shine, makes it look better.
